Kindergarten

Our Spanish immersion Kindergarten builds on the foundation of the preschool years while introducing focused math and literacy instruction. Students spend three hour outdoors each day, engaging in projects and problem-solving activities that contribute to the school community and support peer learning.

Designed for children who turn 5 by September 1, this nature-based program integrates Creative Curriculum for Kindergarten, the Responsive Classroom approach, and the Learning Without Tears Literacy and Math Curriculum.

Additionally, students receive three hours of English phonics and sight word instruction per week, led by occupational therapist Holly Goldberg.

We use the latest Creative Curriculum Cloud for Kindergarten, which includes a Spanish library, GOLD assessment tools, and teacher training resources. This curriculum fosters cognitive, physical, social-emotional, math, and language development through engaging, small-group, project-based learning. Hands-on activities encourage confidence, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

As a full Spanish immersion program, we implement ESOL strategies to support language development. Our thematic library, enhanced by training from the Rollins Institute of Language, strengthens vocabulary and comprehension. Writing and data collection are seamlessly integrated into outdoor classrooms, gardening, journaling, art, science, and discussions on community and world events.

Nature-based provocations support STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) objectives, reinforcing key concepts through exploration and discovery. Long-term units of study culminate in interactive projects, including school-wide initiatives like vermicomposting, recycling programs, and peer education for younger students.
